Chelsea have reached a verbal agreement with Aston Villa to sign Morgan Rogers in a deal worth £117m, according to The Athletic.

Villa have accepted Chelsea’s offer, although the final details of the transfer are still being completed.

Rogers has agreed personal terms on a six-year contract until 2032. Chelsea will also hold the option to extend his deal for another season.

A medical has been scheduled for Monday as the Blues move closer to completing one of the biggest transfers in their history.

Alonso convinces Rogers to choose Chelsea

Rogers reportedly wants to join Chelsea after being convinced by Xabi Alonso and the club’s plans for his first season at Stamford Bridge.

Arsenal were also pushing to sign the 23-year-old and had identified him as a leading attacking target. However, Rogers has chosen Chelsea as his preferred destination.

The England international would give Alonso another proven Premier League attacker who can play centrally or from the left.

Rogers scored 14 goals and registered 12 assists in 55 appearances for Villa last season. He helped Unai Emery’s side win the Europa League and secure Champions League qualification.

He has also featured in all six of England’s World Cup matches this summer. Rogers assisted Anthony Gordon’s goal during the semi-final defeat against Argentina.

Chelsea had previously faced a reported £130m valuation for the attacker. Read Chelsea examined whether the club should meet Villa’s demands while Arsenal continued to apply pressure.

Sky Sports had named Rogers as Arsenal’s top forward target, but Chelsea have now moved ahead of their London rivals.

Rogers will remain with England for Saturday’s third-place play-off against France before travelling for his medical.
