Morgan Rogers solves three of Chelsea’s biggest issues, he’s worth record £117m fee
Chelsea have agreed a record £117m fee with Aston Villa to sign England star Morgan Rogers.
The deal will make Rogers the most expensive signing in Premier League history, with many already questioning the amount of money Chelsea are about to spend on the attacking midfielder.
Yet Rogers could be well worth the fee. His arrival could address three of the Blues’ biggest problems.

Inconsistency on the left wing
The left flank was a major issue for Chelsea last season. Alejandro Garnacho only scored one goal in the Premier League and is now set to leave Stamford Bridge.
Jamie Gittens showed glimpses of his quality, but he struggled to stay fit and never nailed down a starting spot in the team.
Rogers should be a more reliable option than the pair after consistently delivering for Villa over these past few seasons.
Lack of cover for No.10 position
While Rogers can play on the left, his preferred position is the attacking midfielder role. Chelsea did not have too many options there in the previous campaign, which became apparent amid Cole Palmer’s injury woes.
The Blues signed Facundo Buonanotte from Brighton & Hove Albion in the last summer transfer window, but the Argentine barely played before having his loan terminated in January.
Joao Pedro can play as a No.10, but Xabi Alonso will want him leading the line. He is Chelsea’s best striker, netting 20 times in all competitions in the 2025/26 season.
Enzo Fernandez obviously did a tremendous job there, but he is not a natural attacking midfielder and wants to leave west London this summer. Clearly, then, Chelsea need someone else who can play behind the striker, which is where Rogers comes in.

Low output in attack
In recent years, Chelsea have just not scored enough goals compared to their rivals. Pedro was quite prolific last season, while Palmer was during his first two campaigns at Stamford Bridge.
However, Chelsea’s other attackers, particularly the wide ones, have struggled for goals. Their assist numbers have not been great either.
Looking at Rogers’ record at Villa, he should be able to help the team in that department.
Taking everything into account, if Chelsea are going to spend £100m on a Premier League attacker, that forward should be Rogers.
