Enzo Maresca ‘pushing hard’ for Chelsea player to join Manchester City
Enzo Maresca is already planning a raid on his former club, identifying Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez as the top priority to kickstart his new era at Manchester City if he takes over from Pep Guardiola.
Enzo Maresca has emerged as the frontrunner to replace Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, with reports suggesting he is already identifying key targets for a potential summer move. Having previously worked as Guardiola’s assistant during their 2023 Champions League-winning campaign, Maresca is viewed by the City hierarchy as the natural successor.
His successful, albeit brief, stint at Chelsea, where he won the Conference League and Club World Cup, has only solidified his reputation.
With that comes the potential to sign former players, with Enzo Fernandez among the main names on the list. But, his future rides on whether the Blues up their contract offer for him and sign some experienced players come the summer transfer window.
Where will Chelsea finish this season? Will they get a European spot?🤔
Enzo Maresca wants Enzo Fernandez to join Man City
According to Touchline, Enzo Maresca has told Manchester City that Enzo Fernández should be their top priority for the summer transfer window.
The Italian manager, who is expected to succeed Pep Guardiola, is pushing hard to get the deal done.
There’s no guarantee Guardiola will leave Manchester City in the summer, and a lot could depend on Enzo Fernandez‘s views. But one thing that isn’t going in their favour is the fact that Chelsea look set to miss out on Champions League football this season.
Do you think Chelsea should have parted with Enzo Maresca?🤔
Chelsea don’t want to sell to Enzo Maresca
After the falling out involving the Chelsea owners and Enzo Maresca, it’s clear that any kind of business between Man City and the Blues won’t be happening under their watch, unless it benefits them.
“But Enzo Fernandez is interesting because you can imagine Chelsea, were they to sell Enzo Fernandez with potentially, and it’s a hypothetical, Enzo Maresca in charge, getting a call from Man City saying under Enzo Maresca, we want Enzo Fernandez, the vice-captain of Chelsea, the price is going to skyrocket.
“And I don’t see any scenario, if I’m perfectly honest, even with Rodri potentially leaving, where Man City drop the fee required to sign both Enzo Fernandez and Elliot Anderson.”
