Chelsea’s three Pep Chavarria alternatives ranked as BlueCo eye English duo
It emerged last week that Rayo Vallecano would want the entirety of Pep Chavarria’s release clause for him to be sold to Chelsea. Whether that is true or not, Chelsea have compiled a list of alternatives.
Chavarria, 28, has been Xabi Alonso’s pick to replace Marc Cucurella following the latter’s £51.8m move to Real Madrid. But Rayo Vallecano continue to move the goalposts and ask for more cash from Chelsea.

Chelsea are now looking elsewhere to replace Cucurella. Plenty of left-sided options have been linked with the Blues over the last month, but we rank the three-man list TeamTalk claim Chelsea have compiled.

3. Alvaro Carreras (Real Madrid)
Carreras is a top player. A player who starred at Madrid during Xabi Alonso’s brief tenure, lasting just 34 matches as manager. Tactically, Carreras is probably the best of the three and has a wonderful left foot.
Equally as effective in defence and attack, Carreras is now experienced at the top level after spells with Benfica and Real Madrid. But there are two problems, and the first is Madrid signing Cucurella.
Jose Mourinho is hardly going to let Carreras go to Chelsea after signing Cucurella from his old club. The other is that Madrid paid north of £45m to sign Carreras, and are likely required to pay north of £60m.
2. Archie Brown (Fenerbahce)
If Chelsea want value for money, Brown is the man. A player who came through West Brom and Derby’s youth sides, Brown made his name in Belgium with Gent before Mourinho signed him while in Turkey.
Brown is more of a wing-back. Incredibly attacking, powerful and boasting bags of speed and strength. But the best bit about signing the Englishman, aside from being homegrown, would be his price tag.
Fenerbahce signed Brown for a meagre £7m from Gent. According to reports, a fee between £15m and £20m would tempt Fenerbahce into a sale. With £117m spent on Morgan Rogers, Brown will be tempting.
1. Lewis Hall (Newcastle)
When Chelsea announced the sale of Cucurella, immediate reports indicated that Hall would be Chelsea’s dream signing. Of course, Chelsea sold Hall to Newcastle after an initial loan spell in the summer of 2024.

That has proved to be a really poor bit of business. Costing Newcastle just £28m, Hall has become one of the best left-backs in the Premier League. Gary Lineker thinks Hall is England’s best left-sided defender.
Perhaps unlucky not to get a World Cup call-up, Hall is said to be considering his future with Chelsea among the clubs monitoring his situation. He is homegrown and proven in the Premier League.
If Chelsea were to sign any left-back this summer, realistically, they would surely pick Hall. He knows the club and he is a Chelsea fan – but whether Newcastle would be open to a sale of Hall remains to be seen.
