Fernandez has been concentrating on the World Cup, but with the tournament now finished, the former Benfica man and his agent can turn their attention to a transfer.

Fernandez is keen on a switch away from Chelsea, though there is not too much interest in him at the moment.

Real Madrid announced that they would not be signing Fernandez this summer, cooling their interest in the ex-River Plate star.

There is still plenty of time for Real Madrid to change their stance, but unless Chelsea drop their asking price, that looks unlikely to happen.

Chelsea are thought to want £120m for Fernandez, which seems more than reasonable in a market where other midfielders are going for around the same price.
