The Blues took little time to show their support for Andy Burnham, a lifelong Everton supporter and the UK’s new prime minister

Everton joined the chorus of voices wishing Andy Burnham success following his appointment as the UK’s new Prime Minister.

Burnham, a massive Blues supporter, took the top job following the resignation of Sir Keir Starmer.

It comes after the 56-year-old became Labour’s new leader in an uncontested rise to power following his election as MP for the constituency of Makerfield.

Everton took little time to reference the fact Burnham is the latest world leader to support the club.

The club posted on social media: “A Toffee at No.10. Congratulations to Andy Burnham on becoming the UK’s Prime Minister. A lifelong Evertonian, long-time Hillsborough Law campaigner, regular Fans Supporting Foodbanks donor and Everton in the Community fundraiser. Wishing you nothing but the best in your new role, Andy Burnham.”

The club’s presence extended into Downing Street on Monday, with Blues legend Peter Reid there to support the new PM, an Everton season ticket holder, and was at Hill Dickinson Stadium earlier this month for Rugby League’s Magic Weekend showcase.

Burnham is not the only world leader to support Everton – Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney is a Blue.

Both politicians joined the fight against the points deductions handed to the club for breaching Premier League financial regulations.
