Sky Sports confirms Rogers arrives for £117m Chelsea medical – Read Chelsea F.C.
Morgan Rogers has arrived for his Chelsea medical as the Blues move closer to completing their British-record £117m transfer.
Sky Sports filmed the England international arriving for tests on Monday morning. Rogers returned from the World Cup after helping England secure third place in the United States.
Chelsea have already agreed the fee with Aston Villa. The 23-year-old will sign a six-year contract until 2032, while the club can extend it for another season.
According to the London Standard, Chelsea expect to complete the remaining formalities shortly. Rogers could then join Xabi Alonso’s squad after his post-tournament break.
Morgan Rogers Chelsea medical moves deal closer
The £117m fee will make Rogers the most expensive British player in football history. He will also become Chelsea’s club-record signing.
Arsenal had identified Rogers as their leading attacking target. However, Chelsea moved quickly after Alonso presented the player with a clear tactical plan.
Rogers is expected to operate from the left while Cole Palmer retains a central role. The former Manchester City academy player can also play as a number ten or in midfield.
ReadChelsea reported on Sunday that Chelsea had received a warning over Rogers’ £117m valuation. The fee will bring pressure, but his Premier League experience should help him adapt.
Rogers scored 14 goals and provided 12 assists for Villa last season. He helped Unai Emery’s side win the Europa League and qualify for the Champions League.
Middlesbrough will also receive more than £20m because of their sell-on clause. Villa signed Rogers from the Championship club in January 2024.
Chelsea must now complete the medical and final paperwork. Barring a late problem, the club should announce Alonso’s latest signing soon.
