Chelsea have completed the signing of forward Melvine Malard from Manchester United, with the France international agreeing a four-year contract that strengthens the Women’s Super League champions ahead of the new season.

The forward joins CHELSEA after two seasons with Manchester United, where she established herself as a versatile attacking option capable of playing across the front line. Known for her pace, direct running and technical ability, Malard arrives with significant experience at both domestic and international level.

Her move marks another statement of intent from Chelsea as the club continues to reinforce its squad in pursuit of further success in England and Europe. The Blues have consistently challenged for major honours in recent years and view Malard as a player capable of adding greater depth and competition in the attacking positions

‘I’m so happy because I have a plan for my life and my career, and Chelsea were a part of that plan,’ said Malard, who recently turned 26.

‘It is a great club and a big club so I am very excited to get started. I have played against Chelsea a lot of times and have always lost so I know the team have good players. And I have known Sonia since I was 14 years old, so it is great to work with her again.

‘My objective is to become better every single day and to win trophies. I know Chelsea always have that as an objective and I have that ambition too.

‘I am also really looking forward to playing at Stamford Bridge on a regular basis. The atmosphere is incredible and the pitch is close to the fans, so you really feel their energy. I love that.’

The transfer also reflects Chelsea’s continued ambition to assemble one of the strongest squads in Europe. Competition for places is expected to intensify, with Malard adding another dimension to an already talented attacking unit.

For Manchester United, Malard’s departure ends a spell in which she played an important role during the club’s rise as one of the Women’s Super League’s leading sides. United will now look to reshape their attacking options as preparations continue for the upcoming campaign.

CHELSEA supporters will be eager to see how quickly Malard settles into her new surroundings, with expectations high following her proven record of winning trophies and performing on the biggest stages.

If she can reproduce the form that made her one of France’s most highly regarded attackers, the move could prove to be another significant addition for a Chelsea side determined to remain at the forefront of domestic and European women’s football over the coming years
