Alex Scott: €94m star makes firm contract decision ahead of Man Utd bid

Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott has turned down the opportunity to sign a new contract at the club amid significant transfer interest from multiple top Premier League clubs.
The 22-year-old’s current deal is due to expire in 2028 and Marco Rose’s side are determined to tie him down to fresh terms in order to ward off serious interest from the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United.
However, Scott has rejected multiple offers from the Cherries and he has indicated that he has no intention of penning a contract extension, as first reported by Sky Sports. This has been backed up by football transfer news expert Fabrizio Romanowho has confirmed that Bournemouth are open to including a release clause in any new deal.
Scott made 39 appearances across all competitions for Bournemouth last season, registering five goal contributions, and it has been reported that an asking price of €94 million (£80m) has been set, despite the fact his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) currently stands at €41.9m.
Arsenal, Chelsea and Man Utd are regarded as the frontrunners to sign the England midfielder this summer, although Bournemouth still expect the ex-Bristol City star to remain at the club next season, regardless of whether he signs a new deal.
Despite this, Scott, who has one senior cap for his country, is keen to explore his options and it’s understood that Man Utd, in particular, have earmarked him as a top target following the collapse of their proposed deal for Atalanta star Ederson.
The Red Devils have already signed Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans so far this summer, but they remain keen to add a third midfielder to Michael Carrick’s first-team squad and Scott is seen as a primary option for the role, alongside Manu Kone (AS Roma) and Carlos Baleba (Brighton & Hove Albion).
Analysis: Would Alex Scott be a good signing for Man Utd?
While Bournemouth insist that Scott isn’t for sale, they could feasibly be forced into agreeing a transfer if the Englishman pushed to leave, and Man Utd appear to be one of his most likely destinations.
Scott would add additional quality in midfield at Old Trafford and his ability to link play between the lines would undoubtedly be a valuable trait that Carrick looks to exploit.
However, for the quoted price of €94m, it isn’t a great fit. Man Utd already have three specialist midfielders in possession – Santos, Tielemans and Kobbie Mainoo – and their final signing in that position needs to be a more defensive option who is capable of covering for the lack of mobility elsewhere.
Kone and Baleba both fit this profile perfectly and so while Scott is a fantastic player, Man Utd should look elsewhere.
