Chelsea’s multiple bids after agreement with player – Rogers deal encourages club to stand firm on price

Rayo Vallecano’s Pep Chavarría is keen on joining Chelsea and has reached an agreement with the Premier League side.
Xabi Alonso has identified the left-back as the main target to replace Marc Cucurella, who left Chelsea for Real Madrid in June.
On July 6th, Sport Witness covered claims from Spain that the manager is pushing for his signing.
A week later, we relayed news of the 28-year-old’s full agreement with the Blues. The two clubs have to agree terms to get the deal over the line. The English club offered €25m including bonuses, which didn’t please the La Liga side.
Chelsea’s multiple attempts falling short
Unión Rayo, an outlet dedicating their coverage to the Spanish club, covers the latest on Chelsea and Pep Chavarría.
The fullback has agreed personal terms with the west London club and only a deal between the two clubs is missing.
Xabi Alonso’s side have made two offers, and the last one was around €25m, likely with bonuses.
Rayo Vallecano have rejected them and continue to refuse to negotiate. The only way the Blues can sign him is by triggering his release clause. The Spanish media earlier stated he has a €50m clause.
Rayo Vallecano standing firm
The Stamford Bridge club are on the verge of signing Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa for £117m (€137.8m).
Unión Rayo point that out and claims the operation for the England international ‘contrasts sharply’ with the ongoing negotiations for Pep Chavarría.
Chelsea have refused to meet the Spanish club’s price and this would have come as a surprise to the latter, at a time when the Blues splashed £117m on Rogers.
That deal has encouraged Rayo Vallecano to stand firm with their demand. They are well aware Chelsea’s interest is real and are refusing to offer any discount.
Rayo may be doing this to put pressure on Chelsea to slightly increase their last offer of €25m. There’s the possibility of the clubs reaching an agreement for less than €50m.
