Those numbers don’t exactly scream durability, and that’s precisely why City let his contract lapse at the end of June without renewal. Stones brings more to the table than just leadership. At VF, we think this is smart short-term thinking from Arsenal rather than a desperate gamble. Stones carries enormous experience and understands exactly what winning a league title requires. His injury history is a legitimate concern, but at the valuation being discussed, the risk is manageable. If Saliba is ruled out for any significant stretch, having Stones available is a far better option than promoting an unproven alternative into a Champions League-level squad. Chelsea’s interest might push the price slightly, but Arsenal’s project should appeal to a player who still wants meaningful football rather than a farewell tour somewhere less competitive.
