Chelsea star Enzo Fernandez travels to Madrid after agreement with club

Enzo Fernandez has been spotted in Madrid with Chelsea teammates Joao Pedro and Marc Cucurella following the controversial comments he made last month. The midfielder reiterated during the international break that he intends to assess his future after this summer’s World Cup, with Real Madrid said to be among his suitors.
The Chelsea squad have been given time off following their 1-0 FA Cup semi‑final win over Leeds United last weekend, in which Fernandez scored the only goal. With Chelsea not in Premier League action until next Monday against Nottingham Forest, the 25‑year‑old has taken advantage of his days off to attend the Madrid Open.
He is understood to be a keen tennis fan and has made this trip something of a tradition, according to Spanish newspaper AS. The trio are there with their partners ahead of Fernandez’s countryman Francisco Cerundolo facing Alexander Blockx in the round of 16 on Tuesday evening.
It’s also understood that Chelsea were made aware of the players’ travel plans to avoid any further controversy and agreed to the trip. Fernandez was also in attendance at the Caja Magica for the tournament last year, along with Pedro Neto, Cucurella and Nicolas Jackson.
He was seen posing for photos with fanswith a couple declaring: “We wait for you next year” and “To Madrid, please Enzo, we need you.”
Last month, the Argentina international was caught up in a controversy after admitting he would ‘love’ to live in the Spanish capital.
“I’d like to live in Spain, I really like Madrid; it reminds me of Buenos Aires,” he told Avirales YouTube channel. “Players live where they want, I’d live in Madrid.
“I get by in English but I’d be more comfortable in Spanish.”
His comments didn’t sit well with the club or the fanbase, especially given previous rumours linking him with a move to Madrid.

As a result, the midfielder was left out of Chelsea’s FA Cup match against Port Vale and their Premier League fixture against Manchester City by former manager Liam Rosenior.
“We think a line was crossed,” the former head coach explained. “It’s not ideal. A lot of it stemmed from a really difficult ten days, probably the most difficult ten days of my career.
“As a person and player, I have the utmost respect for Enzo Fernandez.”
Rosenior was dismissed last week after seven defeats in an eight‑game spell as Blues head coach, with his 107‑day tenure ending in last Tuesday’s 3-0 defeat away at Brighton.
