Manchester United have been busy working on their midfield this summer.
Midfield moves
Casemiro left at the end of last season when his contract expired, and Manuel Ugarte suffered a terrible injury at the World Cup while representing Uruguay.
Manchester United have been linked to numerous players but have so far settled on two names.
They signed Brazilian Andrey Santos from Chelsea earlier in the month and also brought in Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa.
Manchester United are also currently looking for another midfielder and have been linked to the likes of Manu Kone and Alex Scott.
Youth
With many of Manchester United’s stars having travelled to North America for World Cup duty, there is an opportunity for midfielders from the youth team to impress.
Jacob Devaney stood out against Wrexham even though he played from a central defensive position in the second half.
The Fletcher twins, Jack and Tyler, are also expected to get more minutes as they made their debuts for the senior side last season.
Dan Gore
Dan Gore had been hoping to catch Michael Carrick’s eye this season and put in a decent showing versus Wrexham last Saturday.
The young midfielder also enjoyed an excellent loan season at Rotherham United last season, winning their player of the year award.
Nonetheless, according to The Sun, this may not be enough to save him.
The paper claims that, “minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has previously complained about United’s inability to generate significant funds through the sale of academy players” and Gore might be the player that is sacrificed while his reputation is high.
Owing to growing competition in the midfield through signings and other youth players, the paper asserts, “he might be the one sacrificed before the deadline simply because he’s outgrown youth football and is ready for a bigger challenge.”
