Manchester United are hoping for another financial windfall that could boost the club’s coffers. Aston Villa are in advanced talks to sign former United winger Alejandro Garnacho.
The Argentinian was made available by Chelsea for a reported £43m asking price just a year on from leaving United. Michael Carrick’s side would be due 10 per cent of any future transfer fee from Garncho’s proposed exit and have already banked money from Mason Greenwood’s move to Fenerbahce as a result of a sell-on clause.
Villa are understood to be negotiating the terms of a transfer for Garnacho, with a loan move and possible obligation to sign the winger being discussed, which could delay United’s windfall.
Chelsea are open to a move that could see Garnacho depart temporarily, with a permanent exit in the future.
The transfer talks follow on from the Stamford Bridge side signing Aston Villa playmaker Morgan Rogers for £117m, in a deal that shocked the Premier League.
Reigning Premier League champions Arsenal were thought to be the front-runners to sign the England international, only for their London rivals to swoop in.
Garnacho’s stock has fallen considerably in recent years, though Unai Emery is an admirer of the former United talent.
It wouldn’t be the first time the Villa boss has looked to hand a United star a second chance, with Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho having loan spells at Villa Park.
Rashford impressed during his time with the Villans, but Sancho struggled to rediscover the form that prompted United to spend big money on his services.
If Villa do sign Garnacho for the reported £43m asking price, United would be due £4.3m from the transfer, though that may not received until future transfer windows if an initial loan move is agreed.
The former United youngster fell out of favour under Ruben Amorim before being placed in a so-called ‘bomb squad’ prior to a move to Chelsea.
Since his move to the Blues, Garnacho has managed just one Premier League goal and has struggled for regular minutes.
