‘I could have done better’ at Chelsea

Ex-Chelsea coach Liam Rosenior has broken silence on his short spell at Stamford Bridge. He has signed as the manager of Ligue 1 side Paris FC ahead of the new season. Rosenior said about the lessons he learnt while remembering his days with Chelsea.

Liam Rosenior had to go through a struggling phase with Chelsea

On the very first day of 2026, Chelsea sacked their manager, Enzo Maresca, as reported by club’s website. This announcement was a kind of New Year surprise to the fans and neutrals as well. Maresca had won the UEFA Conference League the last year and the FIFA Club World Cup in summer 2025. The overall form of the team was poor in the starting of 2025-26 season. But after achieving all that success with the Italian coach, it was very quick of BlueCo. to sack Maresca.

After this the Blues wasted no time and brought Liam Rosenior on the stage. On 6th January 2026, he was appointed by Chelsea as the men’s first team head coach, as reported by club’s website. The English coach was brought from French club Strasbourg. This Ligue 1 side also happens to be the sister club of Chelsea under Todd Boehly’s ownership. As a result, it was easy to complete all the negotiations and paper work.

Rosenior was hired with a lot of hope and expectations. His explosive football at Strasbourg was a sense of relief for all the fans at that time. Everyone thought he would bring the Blues’ season on track and would start a new beginning. But things did not go as planned. Results did not improve under him as well.

He had registered just 11 wins and 2 draws in 23 matches, according to FOTMOB. Chelsea went on a five match streak in Premier League without scoring under him. The London club could not qualify for any European competition. He was there at the Stamford Bridge for just three-and-a-half months.

Rosenior opens up on his Chelsea departure

As reported by BBC, French Media arranged a press meet for Rosenior on Friday. He has taken the duty of managing Paris FC in France. So, now speaking with French media will be in his daily routine. After leaving Chelsea, he didn’t speak on a public platform which gave rise to several questions.

He faced questions on this topic on Friday as well. The Paris FC coach said, “We joined the club in the middle of a season and at a difficult moment, and I learned many lessons. There are things I definitely could have done better and things I could have taken more accountability for, but there were also positive aspects to what we did. Those lessons I take from Chelsea will help me in this role and, hopefully, help this club become a very big club in world football as well.”

Rosenior has a new life ahead in France again

As reported by Sports Mole, his reputation in England has been apparently hampered . But in France, he is still a brilliant coaching figure. A brilliant spell with Strasbourg has maintained his goodwill in Ligue 1.

The 42-year-old manager is now the coach of Paris FC after they parted their ways with previous manager, Antoine Kombouare. Rosenior wants to get back his lost charm in his coaching career. A strong season with Paris, just like he did at Strasbourg may guarantee that.
