Romano Claims Agreement Is “Almost Done” As Chelsea Edge Closer To Next Summer Signing

An agreement between Chelsea and Maxence Lacroix on personal terms is “almost done”, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said that the Blues are making progress on both the player and club side, with the intention of concluding negotiations quickly:
“The centre back they want to bring is Maxence Lacroix. The agreement with the player is almost done, and Chelsea are advancing also with Crystal Palace.”
“Meetings took place in the United States to discuss about Lacroix between Chelsea and Crystal Palace, and now Chelsea are advancing on the deal for the French defender. So Chelsea want to get (this) done for Lacroix as soon as possible.”
Chelsea have discussed a potential swap deal
It is believed that Axel Disasi’s name was mentioned in talks between the Blues and Palace, although the likelihood of a part-exchange is said to be pretty low.
Allowing Disasi to move in the other direction to Selhurst Park would have significantly reduced the cost of signing Lacroix – whose valuation is £55m.
However, Disasi is reportedly keen on leaving the Premier League, with interest from both Italy and France.

Lacroix is the top centre-back target
The Blues are also thought to be looking to recruit former Manchester City defender John Stones on a free transfer, but it has to be emphasised that any move for the England international is separate.
Stones could be brought in addition to Lacroix, and that would certainly raise some eyebrows, considering that manager Xabi Alonso already has NINE centre-halves at his disposal.
In addition to Disasi, the Spaniard can call upon Levi Colwill, Wesley Fofana, Jorrel Hato, Josh Acheampong, Mamadou Sarr, Trevoh Chalobah, Benoit Badiashile and Tosin Adarabioyo.
The latter three are believed to be available for transfer (in addition to Disasi), and it does look like there could be some major changes to the backline.
