Chelsea make major statement to end Man United’s Cole Palmer hopes – Man United News And Transfer News

Amidst rumours that Cole Palmer could potentially move to Manchester United this summer, it has now been reported that a recent bold statement by Chelsea was partially made to scupper such a possibility.
Palmer to United
Since swapping Manchester City for Chelsea, Palmer, a boyhood United fan who also idolises Wayne Rooney, has emerged as one of the best attacking players in the Premier League.
However, he struggled for form and consistency last season as Chelsea attained a limp 10th-placed finish.
Palmer, who was left out of England’s World Cup squad by Thomas Tuchel, managed 10 goals and one assist in 26 Premier League appearances.
During the course of last season, there was talk that United could attempt to snap up the player, who was also said to be unsettled at Stamford Bridge.
In April, Palmer made it clear that his objective was to stay at Chelsea but this did very little to put the rumours to rest. Now, TEAMtalk say that Chelsea’s ambitious signing of Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa was partly sanctioned as a show of commitment to Palmer.
Bold statement
Earlier this week, Chelsea announced Rogers’ signing from Villa in a £117m deal. This is a record transfer for a British player. Arsenal were largely seen as favourites to land Palmer but Chelsea swooped in at the eleventh hour and hijacked the transfer.
TEAMtalk claim that Chelsea have consistently assured Palmer that he has a key role to play under Xabi Alonso.
He is viewed as untouchable and despite speculation of a switch to Old Trafford, there has never been any doubt within the club about his importance.
Rogers’ signing has further reinforced Palmer’s belief that Chelsea is the right place for him to further his career.
TEAMtalk add, “A return to the North West – particularly to Manchester United, the club Palmer supported as a boy – has regularly been discussed behind the scenes.”
“But Chelsea have remained relaxed about the situation and have never feared losing their star man.”
“Instead, they have doubled down on their commitment by bringing in one of Palmer’s closest friends in football.”
It’s understood that Palmer was influential in convincing Palmer to snub Arsenal for Chelsea. The two close friends were in regular communication during the transfer saga.
Rogers all but admitted it, revealing that Palmer was blowing up his phone with constant calls and messages.
