Manchester United have discovered exactly how much they will bank from Alejandro Garnacho’s move to Aston Villa, which has now been confirmed.

On Wednesday evening, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Chelsea and Villa had struck an agreement for Garnacho, on an initial loan deal with conditions that could make it an obligation.
Romano sealed the news with his famous ‘here we go’ catchphrase.
The Italian journalist subsequently revealed that with the conditions for a permanent transfer so readily achievable, Garnacho can essentially be regarded as a Villa player for the foreseeable future, ruling out any prospect of a return to Chelsea.
The former United forward endured a nightmare 2025/26 season at Stamford Bridge after he departed United last summer. He managed just one Premier League goal for the Blues as he struggled to deliver consistent performances.
Xabi Alonso made it clear that there was no place in his plans for Garnacho. Now. Villa have confirmed the signing of the Carrington academy graduate.
Villa note that Garnacho has put pen to paper on a season-long loan contract.
Unai Emery said, “We are delighted with Alejandro. He is so talented, young and he showed us his wish to help our project. We are really happy.”
Garnacho will wear the No. 17 shirt at Villa Park, a number he wore during his time at United and when playing for Argentina during his eight caps.
United windfall
When United sold Garnacho to Chelsea for £40m, the Red Devils inserted a 10% sell-on clause, positioning themselves to benefit from any future sale.
According to Ben Jacobs, Chelsea are in line to make a total sum of €50m (£42.6m) from parting ways with the 22-year-old.

This has been corroborated by the Daily Mail’s Kieran Gill, who also clarified that United’s 10% sell-on clause only relates to any profit made by Chelsea.

While the assumption may have been that the 10% clause applied to the full fee Chelsea banked, a profit-based calculation would leave United with a significantly reduced windfall
Garnacho is said to have pre-agreed a four-year contract with Villa.
The player made 144 appearances for United, scoring 26 goals in that period.
