Morgan Rogers completes Chelsea move

Chelsea have completed the signing of England international Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa, with the 23-year-old forward expressing his delight after sealing a long-term move to Stamford Bridge in one of the biggest transfers of the summer.

CHELSEA confirmed Rogers has signed a contract until 2033, adding one of the Premier League’s brightest young attacking talents to Xabi Alonso’s squad ahead of the 2026/27 campaign. The deal is widely reported to be worth around £117 million, making Rogers the most expensive British player in football history.

Speaking after the transfer was officially announced, Rogers said he was eager to begin the next chapter of his career.

“I’m so excited,” Rogers said. “For me, Chelsea are the biggest club in London and a club I’ve always admired since I was a kid.

“I’m really excited about the project with the new manager, the players we’ve got and where the club is heading. That’s why I’m here and I can’t wait to get started.”

Chelsea’s pursuit of Rogers accelerated following his impressive performances for both Aston Villa and England over the past two seasons. Comfortable playing on either wing or as an attacking midfielder, Rogers established himself as one of the Premier League’s most dynamic creative players during his spell at Villa Park.

Since joining Aston Villa from Middlesbrough in early 2024, Rogers made 125 appearances in all competitions, scoring 31 goals while helping Unai Emery’s side secure a top-four Premier League finish before lifting the UEFA Europa League trophy last season.

His rapid development also earned him a regular place in England’s squad, where he has become an important figure since making his senior debut in late 2024.

CHELSEA believe Rogers will play a central role in Alonso’s rebuilding project as the club aims to challenge for domestic honours after a disappointing league campaign. His versatility, pace, creativity and ability to score goals are viewed as qualities that will strengthen an already talented young squad.

The transfer also represents a significant piece of business for Aston Villa, who receive a record fee for a player they signed for a fraction of the price just over two years ago. Villa have already begun reshaping their squad, bringing in new additions as they prepare for the new season following Rogers’ departure
