It didn’t take long for Morgan Rogers to throw shade at Arsenal after joining Chelsea

Morgan Rogers completed his move to Chelsea just a matter of days ago and it didn’t take long for him to throw shade at Arsenal, the club he was tipped to join this summer.

The midfielder signed for the Gunners’ London rivals after a lengthy period of links with Mikel Arteta’s side before the Blues swooped in to hijack the potential deal for a British record fee of £117million.

While it was heavily reported by multiple outlets Arsenal were his preferred destination, Rogers has made his feelings on his new club and their rivals clear pretty quickly.

When Rogers was asked about signing for Chelsea, he said: “I’m so excited. For me, Chelsea are the biggest club in London and a club I’ve always admired since I was a kid.”

Considering most reports suggested the former Aston Villa star was keen to join the Gunners and even showed a preference to sign for Arteta’s side, most will be quick to dismiss this as a clear dig from the player.

Arsenal had been considered a serious contender to sign Rogers since May and were set to accelerate talks just days before his move to Chelsea was agreed, but it is has surfaced in recent days that they weren’t exactly beaten to the deal.

The North Londoners were reportedly given the chance to match the offer made by their rivals, but declined, having set their valuation of Rogers at £80m and they were unwilling to go above that.

Instead of the Gunners being beaten to the signing, the reality is they opted against the opportunity to bring him to the club as they felt the price was too high, and that may be what has prompted these comments from Rogers.

Having made himself available to Arsenal, he would naturally feel a bad attitude towards the Premier League champions, but the simple facts are his statement isn’t even true.

Chelsea finished 10th last season, the Gunners finished first. Chelsea have won six league titles, Arsenal have won 14. Chelsea have eight FA Cups, Arsenal have a record 14. Okay, you get the point. We won’t go into European titles, but for the sake of argument, Arsenal have won the Cup Winners’ Cup, so yes they do have European pedigree.

Regardless, the Gunners are the biggest club in London given their history, recent success and performances and Rogers’ comments after joining Chelsea are likely nothing more than a dig brought on by the circumstances surrounding his transfer saga.
