Axel Disasi exit nears as AC Milan step up interest

Chelsea defender Axel Disasi looks set to leave before the transfer window closes, with AC Milan emerging as one of the strongest contenders to sign him. The Italian giants are keen to sign the French centre-back, while Roma are also monitoring his situation. Disasi is no longer part of Chelsea’s plans under new manager Xabi Alonso, the 28-year-old has not returned for pre-season training.

AC Milan and Roma ready to offer Disasi a fresh start

AC Milan have stepped up their interest in Disasi as they look to strengthen their defence this summer. Milan boss Ruben Amorim is keen to add Premier League experience to his squad and sees the Chelsea defender as a suitable option. As reported by talkSPORT, Roma are also in the race. The Serie A side can offer Champions League football, while Milan will compete in the Europa League next season.

Chelsea signed Disasi from Monaco for £38 million in 2023, and are prepared to accept around £25 million. Disasi has spent much of the last two seasons away from Chelsea’s first-team setup. As reported by The Sun, he has trained away from the senior squad during the last two summers and is currently not involved in Xabi Alonso’s pre-season preparations. West Ham were interested in bringing him back, but according to reports, the defender was not keen on playing in the Championship, making a move abroad the more likely option.

Chelsea spell never lived up to expectations

Disasi made an encouraging start to life at Chelsea. He scored on his debut in a 1-1 draw against Liverpool, and went on to make 44 appearances in his first season. However, he soon fell down the ranks and struggled to regain a regular starting place. He spent the second half of the 2024-25 season on loan at Aston Villa before joining West Ham on another loan move after failing to feature for Chelsea during the first half of last season.

Disasi made 17 appearances in all competitions for West Ham, scoring once and quickly becoming a fan favourite, however he could not help the club avoid relegation. Overall, Disasi has played 61 matches for Chelsea and has scored 5 goals since arriving in England. His last appearance for the Blues came on January 1, 2025.

Chelsea already planning for life after Disasi

Chelsea appear ready to move on from Disasi as they continue to reshape the squad under Xabi Alonso. As reported by talkSPORT, Crystal Palace defender Maxence Lacroix is one player Chelsea are considering as a possible replacement. A transfer to AC Milan would also continue the growing trend of players moving directly from Chelsea to the Italian club. Players like Giroud, Tomori, Pulisic and more have gone down the same path.

For Disasi, the move could offer the fresh start he has been looking for after a frustrating spell in west London. With AC Milan and Roma both interested, and Chelsea willing to sell at a reduced price, an exit now looks closer than ever.
