Chelsea urged to sign Roma star Manu Kone
Former Chelsea defender Glen Johnson has urged the Blues to make a decisive move for France midfielder Manu Koné, arguing the highly rated midfielder would strengthen the club’s long-term ambitions amid reported interest from Premier League rivals Manchester United and Arsenal.
Koné has emerged as one of Europe’s most sought-after midfielders following a series of impressive performances in Germany and on the international stage, with several English clubs believed to be monitoring his situation ahead of the closing stages of the summer transfer window.
Johnson believes CHELSEA should act quickly to secure the 25-year-old’s signature before competition for the Frenchman intensifies: ‘He has been excellent for France,’ Johnson told Metro via Spinbet. ‘A top midfielder, strong, physical, can use the ball well, pick a pass well, he is a top player, and to get into the French midfield you must be a good player
‘If Enzo leaves, he can be the perfect replacement for sure. His attributes seem to be suited to the Premier League, so I don’t think he will have any issues getting used to the game at all.’
Kone was asked about the intense speculation over his future ahead of the World Cup, but said he was keen to remain ‘exclusively focused’ on his commitments with Les Bleus.
‘Honestly, right now I’m only thinking about the World Cup,’ Kone said. ‘It’s my first major international competition, a tournament I’ve always dreamed of playing in.
‘I want to remain exclusively focused on this. We’ll talk about the future after the World Cup and see what happens.’
While there has been no official confirmation that CHELSEA have submitted an offer, reports suggest the club has continued to monitor developments closely as it evaluates potential additions before the transfer window closes.
Johnson’s endorsement is likely to resonate with supporters eager to see Chelsea add further quality to a squad undergoing continued evolution. The former England international believes Koné possesses the attributes required to succeed in the Premier League and could become a cornerstone of Chelsea’s midfield for years to come.
