World Cup goalkeeper open to joining Chelsea, ‘not Nottingham Forest’
The controversy around the goalkeeping situation at Chelsea has somewhat been forgotten since Xabi Alonso arrived, but it still needs solving.
Xabi Alonso wants to assess his current goalkeeping options this summer before deciding whether to enter the transfer market, which is a sensible move having spent over £200 million already.
Filip Jorgensen seems ready to put his transfer request on hold, determined to stay and prove he can be the first-choice keeper. That sets up a fierce pre-season battle, with Robert Sanchez and Mike Penders involved.

However, Chelsea haven’t ruled out signing a goalkeeper, it’s just Alonso will evaluate all three closely during pre-season training before making a final call on the situation.
There’ll be plenty of games to make those decisions in, as the Blues are set to play five games in Australia / Asia, followed by a friendly against Real Sociedad.
Diogo Costa offers Chelsea a goalkeeping option this summer
Despite not wanting a goalkeeper at this moment in time, it’s nice to know that there are options out there should Xabi Alonso need to dip into the market.
Whilst appearing on the Mercado Now show, Portuguese journalist and radio executive Pedro Sousa has claimed that FC Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa would join Chelsea if they came calling.
“He is someone who is very attached to the city and to the club and doesn’t have much of an adventurous spirit.
“Diogo Costa would not leave Porto for Nottingham Forest, for example. Diogo Costa would leave Porto for Chelsea, Atlético Madrid, Real Madrid… Or Paris Saint-Germain, Milan, Inter, you know?”
Interestingly, just over two weeks ago, Ekrem Konur told The Chelsea Chronicle that Chelsea had placed Diogo Costa at the top of their transfer list for this summer.
However, any potential move is on hold for now.

It doesn’t stop there, as his brilliant form on the international stage capped off a sensational season with Porto. The 26-year-old, who captains the Portuguese giants, was an absolute brick wall at club level, keeping 21 clean sheets across the campaign and conceding just 15 goals in Liga Portugal.
This is the kind of consistency that Chelsea are craving after a season of goalkeeping inconsistency.
