Maxence Lacroix played all but three league games in 2025/26 — here’s how Palace fared without him

The centre-back was a key player for Palace last term, playing in all but three games in the Premier League.

Lacroix was practically an ever-present for the Eagles, but how did they cope in those few matches he did not feature in? The Chelsea Chronicle has taken a look.

Crystal Palace vs Wolves: Crystal Palace win

The first league game that Lacroix failed to feature in came against Wolverhampton Wanderers in February, showing just how much Oliver Glasner had been relying on him.

Fortunately for Glasner, Palace were still able to win that match 1-0. Collecting all three points and managing to keep a clean sheet, the south London club were able to survive without one of their star defenders.

Tottenham vs Crystal Palace: Crystal Palace win

Lacroix returned to the starting line-up for Palace’s following game against Manchester United but was sent off. It meant that the 26-year-old was suspended for the subsequent match versus Tottenham Hotspur.

Again, though, Palace were able to win after beating Chelsea’s fierce rivals 3-1!

Crystal Palace vs Arsenal: Crystal Palace loss

Palace could not make it three wins out of three without Lacroix on the pitch after losing 2-1 to Arsenal on the final day of the season.

Lacroix did make the matchday squad that day but was an unused substitute. Whether the Frenchman started or not, it was always going to be a difficult game.

Palace’s attention was on the Conference League final a few days later, while Arsenal wanted to end the campaign on a high after winning the Premier League title.

All in all, it is a small sample size, but Palace did not collapse in Lacroix’s absence. The France international not being there is something that they will have to get used to, with Lacroix set to sign for Chelsea. He was a solid performer for them, and we now hope he can be the same for Xabi Alonso’s side!
