Chelsea transfer news: Chelsea are refusing to give up on Alex Scott.
According to Chelsea reporter Simon Phillips, the Blues have gone back in with a fresh approach for the Bournemouth midfielder after seeing their initial bid knocked back. The south coast side, however, seem far more willing to sit down and talk than that first rejection suggested.
Crucially, Scott wants the move. Personal assurances have already been made to the 22-year-old regarding his role at Stamford Bridge under Xabi Alonso, and those conversations have clearly struck a chord.

Up to £90 million is a massive sum. On paper, for a midfielder whose raw output last term wasn’t exactly exploding off the stats sheet, it looks eye-watering. Scott posted three goals and a single assist across 37 Premier League outings in 2025/26, racking up 2,861 minutes for an impressive Bournemouth side that eventually snatched a Europa League spot.
Numbers alone do a terrible job of capturing what he actually brings to Marco Rose’s engine room.
An 84% pass accuracy and 26 key passes across the campaign hint at his neat distribution, but it is the physical graft where he really excels. Five yellow cards and 1.41 fouls conceded per 90 minutes point to a player constantly doing the dirty work in the tightest, most chaotic spaces on the pitch. Bournemouth’s remarkable 18-match unbeaten run was built directly on the midfield platform Scott helped construct.
What Scott gives Xabi Alonso’s side
Chelsea’s transfer activity this window has mostly leaned towards flashy attacking additions. Yet the midfield feels surprisingly thin, especially after the campaign exposed a lack of depth in deeper roles.
The Guernsey-born talent already has 37 top-flight starts under his belt. He brings a relentless pressing intensity that Alonso’s setup thrives on. Scott simply does not drift out of matches. He demands the ball in tight spots, drives through lines, and actively shuns the safe, sideways option in favour of forward momentum.
Bournemouth’s reluctance is completely fair. They have European football to look forward to, and losing a core piece of their spine right before the new season hurts. Still, £90 million is the kind of money that becomes almost impossible to turn down, regardless of ambition.
Time for Chelsea to pull the trigger
This is precisely the sort of deal Chelsea have overcomplicated in the past. Scott is young, proven in the division, and eager to step up.
The market for top-tier Premier League midfielders is ridiculously inflated, but that is the going rate now. If Alonso wants him in his squad, Chelsea need to wrap this up fast before someone else decides to crash the party.
