Chelsea submit €40m package to sign Bayer Leverkusen winger – Read Chelsea F.C.

Kerim Alajbegovic to Chelsea has moved closer after the Blues submitted a package worth up to €40million for the Bayer Leverkusen winger.

Xabi Alonso has also personally explained his development plan to the 18-year-old, although contract negotiations have not yet started.

Chelsea’s offer includes more than €30million guaranteed, with performance-related bonuses taking the potential fee to €40million. Bayer Leverkusen are yet to accept the proposal, but talks between the clubs are progressing.

According to Get German Football News, citing Kicker, Alonso has spoken directly with Alajbegovic about how Chelsea would manage his development.

The proposed pathway could see the Bosnia and Herzegovina international join another club on loan before competing for a senior place at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea already have Cole Palmer, Morgan Rogers, Jamie Gittens, Pedro Neto, Estevão and Geovany Quenda among their attacking options. An immediate loan would give Alajbegovic regular minutes without adding further pressure to Alonso’s crowded squad.

The Blues’ need to balance further additions with departures was examined in ReadChelsea’s latest transfer overview, published within the last 24–48 hours.

Alajbegovic’s representatives have not discussed his salary or the length of a Chelsea contract. Those talks are expected to begin only after the clubs reach an agreement.

The winger is due to report for Leverkusen’s pre-season programme on Monday, 27 July. However, he may train separately while negotiations continue to reduce the risk of an injury affecting the potential transfer.

Leverkusen sold Alajbegovic to Red Bull Salzburg before activating a buyback clause this summer. A €40million agreement would therefore deliver a substantial profit without him making a competitive senior appearance for the German club.
