Why Jamie Gittens thinks Chelsea have just taken a step closer to the Premier League title
Chelsea’s aims for the 2026-27 Premier League season will simply be to get back into the Champions League. But according to Jamie Gittens, the Premier League title is a step closer.

The optimism is back after a dismal 10th-placed finish in the Premier League, which has resulted in the Blues failing to qualify for Europe. But with Xabi Alonso and Morgan Rogers on board, excitement is back.
Open training was held at the Allianz Stadium on Sunday, and Alonso was front and centre. Chelsea fans got to see his hands-on approach, including his work with Chelsea’s youngsters like Landon Emenalo.

But it won’t be Emenalo that delivers success at Chelsea. Rogers, on the other hand, could provide the Blues with the attacking spark required to make Chelsea a side feared once again in the Premier League.
Speaking after training had finished, Gittens – who has scored in both behind-closed-doors friendlies against Bromley and Crawley – believes the signing of Rogers takes Chelsea a step closer to the title.
“We want to win everything – that is our ambition, to win the Premier League, the FA Cup, win anything that we’re in. Bringing in a player like Morgan will hopefully raise the bar to win titles,” he told The Mail.

The sale of Alejandro Garnacho is good news for Gittens. Garnacho has gone on loan to Aston Villa with the Midlands club boasting a conditional obligation to buy him, with those conditions easily met.

However, Chelsea have pitched the left-wing role to Rogers. While the England star rests after a busy summer, it leaves Gittens as Chelsea’s first-choice option on the left and Gittens has got to impress.
He has done that behind closed doors; now the £55m signing has to do it as the opposition steps up. If Gittens can prove to Alonso that he is a trusted option, then he has a chance of redemption at Chelsea.
