Bournemouth could easily demand £100m fee for Alex Scott

Journalist Florian Plettenberg has claimed on X that Chelsea are still interested in Scott and are readying a new bid for him.

However, Chelsea should be ready for another knock back if their next offer does not reach the £100m mark.

They have already had an offer worth almost £70m turned down, while the midfielder market has gone absolutely bonkers. Bournemouth will feel that Scott is a £100m midfielder.

Elliot Anderson and Sandro Tonali have both just been sold for £100m fees, with the former costing slightly more than that, while Mateus Fernandes has gone for £85m, even after West Ham United’s relegation.

It is no surprise that Bournemouth said no to Chelsea’s £64m offer. In this climate, they probably found it insulting.

Scott is not a £100m midfielder, though, and neither are Anderson nor Tonali. They are not going to have the same kind of impact that Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez and Declan Rice have for club and country.

Nevertheless, this is what the market has become, and if Chelsea are desperate to sign Scott during this transfer window, they should brace themselves for a £100m quote.

If Chelsea are going to fork out £100m on another midfielder, Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes would be a much better option.

Chelsea making a move for Guimaraes has actually not been ruled out by one journalist, but signing a 28-year-old for £100m does not sound like BlueCo.
