Chelsea make transfer decisions on four players as Danny Welbeck update emerges
Chelsea are looking to seal a deal for Brighton striker Danny Welbeck in a bid to strengthen their attacking options under Xabi Alonso this summer

Chelsea remain in dialogue with Danny Welbeck as they look to agree personal terms with the Brighton and Hove Albion striker. Meanwhile football.london understands that Liam Delap and Marc Guiu are available for the right price, Nicolas Jackson has plenty of interest and Emmanuel Emegha is not for sale.
The Blues have opened talks with Brighton over a potential deal for Welbeck. It is understood that club-to-club negotiations have begun between Chelsea and the Seagulls, with a view to the centre-forward arriving in west London ahead of the new season.
Welbeck, 35, rolled back the years with Brighton last term. The former Manchester United and England striker bagged 14 goals and two assists across all competitions for Fabian Hurzeler’s men.
While Brazilian forward Joao Pedro netted 15 goals and eight assists in the Premier League, Liam Delap struggled badly at Stamford Bridge. The former Ipswich Town man scored just once despite making 28 appearances, sparking concern over his suitability for the club.

The signing of Welbeck would ultimately bolster Chelsea’s attacking threat if new Blues boss Xabi Alonso can get him playing at his best. And it is understood that personal terms won’t be an issue for the Red Devils academy graduate.
Brighton declined to comment on matters when approached by football.london.
Welbeck signed a 12-month contract extension in March, with his current deal running until the end of the 2026/27 season. The Englishman joining Chelsea would be another sign of a shift in strategy this summer.
Their move for him follows attempts to sign 33-year-old midfielder Granit Xhaka from Sunderland, with the Black Cats refusing to sell the Switzerland captain.
But Chelsea are now working to pull off a stunning free transfer to land Jordan Henderson from Brentford instead. The Blues are reported to be among a number of Premier League clubs eyeing a deal to sign the Bees midfielder this summer.

Brentford are prepared to allow the 36-year-old to depart for free and continue to enjoy a healthy relationship with Henderson, the Athletic reports. He has a year remaining on his contract.
Henderson made 22 league starts for Brentford in 2025/26 after joining from Ajax and made a further 10 appearances as a substitute.
That earned him a place in former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the World Cup – where he played just six minutes before picking up an injury after the last 16 win over Mexico.
