Enzo Fernandez Spotted in Spain Amid Real Madrid Transfer Speculation

Chelsea vice-captain Enzo Fernandez has been spotted relaxing in the city of Madrid, amid heavy transfer speculation that he could join Real Madrid in the summer transfer window. While this will certainly drive the rumour mill into overdrive, the midfielder was in the Spanish capital with his teammates to attend the Madrid Open.

He was filmed with Marc Cucurella and Joao Pedro, as the trio enjoyed some time off the Blues’ busy schedules at Cobham. This comes after Fernandez provided the decisive goal to seal a 1-0 win over Leeds in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley on April 26. His powerful header has pushed Chelsea into the final, where they will return to Wembley and face Manchester City on May 16.

Despite the Blues dealing with heavy pressure in their Premier League campaign, the club hierarchy reportedly approved the trip to Spain for the players to enjoy a brief recovery. However, his appearance in Madrid may not sit well with Chelsea fans, many of whom are rightly concerned about his future, especially after his comments earlier in the season.

After losing to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, Enzo Fernandez revealed that he was uncertain about his future. And while that could be down to his emotions, following the loss, the Argentine international made further comments about living in Madrid. This saw him suspended by the club for two games, and he had to apologise before returning to the starting lineup.

Chelsea can still mathematically qualify for the Champions League next season, but other results would need to go in their favour as they look to win their final games of the season. However, it is worth noting that they have to prepare for what will undoubtedly be a rigorous series of upcoming fixtures.

On May 4, the Blues will invite Nottingham Forest to Stamford Bridge for a Monday afternoon clash. A more concerning fixture for Chelsea will be the game after that, where a trip to Liverpool at Anfield awaits on May 9. Their final two games are against Tottenham Hotspur and Sunderland, with both teams lower than the Blues in the league table, and the former notably suffering a relegation battle.
