Chelsea are working on a Jordan Henderson to Chelsea transfer and currently lead the race for the Brentford midfielder.
The 36-year-old can leave the Bees on a free transfer despite having another year remaining on his contract.
The Athletic reports that Chelsea face competition from several Premier League clubs. However, the Stamford Bridge side have emerged as the leading contenders.
Brentford are prepared to release Henderson without demanding a fee. The situation remains amicable after he joined the club from Ajax last summer.
talkSPORT has also reported that Chelsea are leading the pursuit, with Henderson open to moving to west London.
Henderson made 32 Premier League appearances for Brentford last season, including 22 starts. He later travelled to the World Cup with England but required surgery after breaking his left arm against Mexico.

Chelsea have focused heavily on signing young players during recent transfer windows. Their pursuit of Henderson represents a clear change under Xabi Alonso.
The Blues have also explored a move for Brighton striker Danny Welbeck. John Stones has attracted interest, while Sunderland rejected an £8million Chelsea offer for Granit Xhaka.
Henderson would add a proven Premier League voice to a young dressing room. The former Liverpool captain has won the Premier League and Champions League while making almost 500 appearances for the Anfield club.
Regular starting opportunities would not be guaranteed. Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez remain established options, while Romeo Lavia and Dario Essugo also need minutes.
Chelsea have no European football this season, which further limits Alonso’s opportunities to rotate. Henderson may therefore need to accept a supporting role focused partly on setting standards away from matches.
A free transfer would carry little financial risk, provided Chelsea agree sensible wages and contract terms. The Jordan Henderson to Chelsea move would also underline Alonso’s desire to balance potential with experience.
