Chelsea are leading the race to sign Premier League veteran Jordan Henderson in a move that will improve the rest of Xabi Alonso’s squad instantly.

News that the Blues are strongly interested in acquiring Henderson has come out of nowhere, however should not come as a surprise after their interest in Granit Xhaka.

It has become clear the Blues are looking to address the lack of experience in the squad, which will bolster the current squad both on and off the pitch.

The Chelsea Chronicle have listed three current Chelsea stars who will benefit greatly from the signing of Henderson, meaning it could be one of the savviest pieces of business the club have done in a while.

Reggie Walsh

Reggie Walsh turned up to Cobham following a body transformation that has seen him put on a significant amount of muscle since we last saw him in action.

Alonso has been keen to have him involved in early pre-season sessions, and has travelled with the Blues on their tour of Australia and Asia.

As a young midfielder, there is so much Walsh can learn from Henderson in terms of what it takes to make it at the top level of English football.

Walsh will be hoping to make more appearances for the first team next season, and Henderson will be the perfect role model for him to work alongside for 2026/27.

Reece James

Even though Henderson has lifted the Premier League title as a captain, it is believed that Reece James will continue as Blues skipper should they complete this deal.

While the 26-year-old is seen as one of the best in the league on the pitch, there have been questions aimed at him when it comes to his leadership skills.

Having another huge presence in the dressing room will only be a boost to James, who has just been present to see how important he is during the World Cup campaign with England.

With James’ wavering fitness, Henderson could also fill in with leadership in the moments of the season where he is not present with the first team.

Romeo Lavia

Romeo Lavia’s biggest issue since joining Chelsea has been his injuries, and frequently this has been triggered by being rushed back from a problem too early.

This has previously come because of a lack of trust in the other options at the club. Andrey Santos left after just 12 months where he couldn’t nail down a starting spot.

Having a steady option like Henderson, whose injury record is superb, will take the pressure off the young Belgian and allow him to only feature when he is ready.

This could be what saves Lavia’s Chelsea career, with supporters beginning to grow impatient with his frequent fitness woes.
