Newcastle United are exploring a summer move for Nicolas Jackson after Bayern Munich decided against a permanent deal. The Chelsea striker now faces an uncertain future ahead of the new season.
Newcastle targeting Nicolas Jackson to solve attacking issues
As per the reports, Newcastle have added Nicolas Jackson to their summer shortlist as they look to fix clear issues in attack. The club has struggled to find a reliable goal scorer this season and that concern has shaped their transfer plans.
Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa have not delivered the expected impact. The pair have managed only eight league goals combined, with most of those coming from Woltemade. Eddie Howe has shown his concern through team selection, often leaving both players on the bench.
Instead, the manager has trusted young Will Osula in recent games. The 20-year-old has started the last three matches and scored twice, which shows promise but also highlights the lack of depth. Relying on a young forward alone is not a long term solution for a side aiming to climb in football.
Jackson offers a different profile. He is quick, direct and likes to run behind defences. His movement could suit Howe’s attacking style, which depends on pace and transitions. In simple terms, he gives Newcastle something they currently lack.

Bayern decision opens door as Chelsea face selection dilemma
Nicolas Jackson spent the season at Bayern Munich but mostly played a backup role behind Harry Kane. He scored 10 goals in 29 appearances, which is a decent return given his limited starts. Bayern’s director Max Eberl confirmed the club will not activate the purchase option. He said, “We will not trigger the option for Nicolas Jackson.” That statement has now pushed the striker back into Chelsea’s plans, though his role there remains unclear.
Chelsea already have several attacking options. The arrivals of Joao Pedro and Liam Delap have increased competition. Nicolas Jackson has scored 30 goals and provided 12 assists in 81 games for the club, but those numbers do not guarantee him a starting place next season.
From a football view, Jackson works best in a setup that gives him space to run into. At Bayern, he often played against a deep defence where his best skills were less useful. He will have more room at Newcastle, especially in quick attacks. But this step may suit all sides. Chelsea will sell if the right offer arrives. Newcastle need a striker who can open up defenses and create chances with his runs.

Goalkeeper plans also shape Newcastle summer strategy
Newcastle are not only focused on attack. The club is also looking to strengthen in goal after a difficult campaign. Sitting 14th in the Premier Leaguethey are planning a rebuild to improve results next season. James Trafford has emerged as a key target. The Manchester City goalkeeper has had limited chances this season, making only 15 appearances. However, his record at Burnley shows his quality.
During his season in the Championship, he let in just 16 goals over 45 matches while keeping 29 clean sheets. The numbers show good positioning, smart choices and composure. In my view, signing both a striker like Jackson and a goalkeeper like Trafford would fix two major weaknesses. Newcastle need goals at one end and better balance at the other.

If they get these decisions right, the team could quickly move away from the lower half and become competitive again. The upcoming window feels important and the choices made now will shape their next season.
