William Gallas tells Chelsea to hire Diego Simeone

Former defender William Gallas has urged Chelsea to make a bold move for Diego Simeone, with reports suggesting the club’s hierarchy are continuing to assess long-term managerial options ahead of the summer.

Chelsea are expected to appoint a new permanent head coach following a turbulent campaign, and Gallas believes the ideal candidate may be the long-serving Atlético Madrid boss, who has built a reputation as one of Europe’s most influential and consistent managers over the past decade.

In comments circulating on Tuesday, Gallas suggested Simeone’s defensive discipline, winning mentality and uncompromising leadership could help restore stability at Stamford Bridge

‘I think it all depends on what you are looking for,’ Gallas told Boyle Sports when asked who Chelsea should appoint next.

‘For the long-term, you can bring in Cesc Fabregas because he is doing well with his club at the moment.

‘He is young and able to speak to a young squad. He’s doing a good job. In the long term, he can bring Chelsea back to the positions where everybody wants to see Chelsea.

‘If you are thinking about the short-term, to have success straight away, they need that experienced head to guide them like Diego Simone and with his personality he can win things very soon with Chelsea.

‘Maybe the Chelsea players need him too because we need to see more warriors and soldiers in the team after what they’ve shown us.

‘I think you need that type of manager who is a little bit more harsh on the players.’

Although Simeone has occasionally been linked with Premier League roles, he has remained committed to Atlético, where he signed a contract extension last year. Reports on Tuesday emphasise that no official contact has been made and that prising him away from the Spanish capital would be financially and strategically complex.

Nonetheless, Gallas’ comments reflect a broader sentiment among some sections of Chelsea supporters and pundits who believe the club requires a strong, authoritative figure to reset standards and provide long-term direction.
