Premier League giants Manchester City are reportedly interested in signing Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez this summer. The Sky Blues are looking to strengthen their midfield with Bernardo Silva set to leave at the end of the season.

Enzo Fernandez has been in impressive form for Chelsea, recording 12 goals and six assists in 48 outings across competitions. The Argentine’s current contract with the Blues runs until 2032, but his recent comments about his future suggest he’s open to leaving the club this summer. While his departure from Stamford Bridge is not confirmed yet, Fernandez could explore other options after the 2026 World Cup.

According to Athletic FC, Manchester City are interested in signing Enzo Fernandez this summer. The Sky Blues have confirmed that they’ll part ways with Bernardo Silva at the end of this season, and Fernandez is being considered as a potential replacement. However, City are also exploring other alternatives, including Nottingham Forest star Elliot Anderson.

Meanwhile, Enzo Fernandez also has other destinations to explore, including Real Madrid, who were previously linked to the Argentine. However, Los Blancos are reportedly unsure of making a move for the midfielder this summer. Irrespective of his next club, his future at Chelsea looks uncertain, especially after he was dropped for two games in March by former coach Liam Rosenior following comments about his future.

Fernandez is expected to make a clearer decision following the World Cup, while the Blues also look to bring in a permanent head coach after the sacking of Liam Rosenior this week.

In an interview with ESPN Argentina during international duty, Enzo Fernandez was asked whether he would stay at Chelsea next season. He said (via Sky Sports):

“I don’t know. My focus is here now. Then the World Cup coming up, so we’ll see after that.”

Further, Fernandez’s agent, Javier Pastore, defended the player regarding his comments concerning his future. He also spoke about their plans after the World Cup, and said (via Sky Sports):

“There have been talks about renewing his contract, yes. We started discussing it around December or January, but we couldn’t reach an agreement. As Enzo’s contract still has six years to run, we decided not to renew it because the terms weren’t right for us or for the player. Given what Enzo is capable of today, he deserves much more than he’s currently earning.”

He added:

“We haven’t reached an agreement and it may be that this annoyed the club, given that he is a hugely important player, but these are things that have to be managed. (…) Our plan after the World Cup is to meet with Chelsea again and, if there is no agreement, to explore other options.”

As of now, Enzo Fernandez will focus on ending the season in the best possible manner for the Blues. They are still in the FA Cup semi-finals, while standing seventh in the Premier League. After five consecutive losses in the league, the West London side will hope to redeem themselves in the final few games.
