Man United told to sign Chelsea star Enzo Fernandez
Louis Saha has called on Manchester United to step up their summer recruitment by targeting Enzo Fernandez, amid growing uncertainty over the Argentina international’s future at Chelsea. Saha said the Blues midfielder would be a “no-brainer” signing for the Red Devils as they look to strengthen Michael Carrick’s midfield ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
Despite being one of CHELSEA’s standout performers in recent seasons — and a World Cup winner — Fernandez’s Stamford Bridge future has been the subject of intense speculation. The star has been linked with a move to Real Madrid, and reportedly faced disciplinary exclusion from the Chelsea squad earlier this season after making comments about potential departures.
With Manchester United planning a significant overhaul of their engine room — especially as experienced midfielder Casemiro leaving Old Trafford at the end of the season — Saha believes that United could capitalise if Fernandez becomes available.
Speaking to Betinia, Saha said: ‘I don’t think Enzo Fernandez has the same style as Bruno Fernandes, but he could still fit into that midfield.
‘He has the calmness on the ball, the intelligence, and the ability to open up play. He’s not exactly the same as a holding midfielder like Caicedo, but he has aggression and quality.
‘It would be a no-brainer, but if he is available, it’s definitely something Manchester United should consider.’
The transfer landscape around Fernandez has become more complex in recent weeks. Reports suggest that Real Madrid are plotting a major bid — potentially in the region of €120 million — to lure him to the Bernabeu, while other clubs like Manchester City and Paris Saint‑Germain are also monitoring his situation.
Meanwhile, CHELSEA are also contemplating how best to secure the midfielder’s future at Stamford Bridge. Reports late on Thursday claimed that the club could return to the negotiating table with Fernandez regarding a new contract as they seek to avoid a summer transfer saga. However, his desire for wages and terms that reflect his status — similar to teammates like Reece James and Moises Caicedo — remains a sticking point.
Manchester United’s midfield has been a topic of scrutiny. Carrick’s side showed promise this season under his stewardship, yet inconsistencies in central areas were evident at times. With Casemiro’s departure and other senior options potentially moving on, the Old Trafford hierarchy is expected to prioritise reinforcements when the transfer window opens in June.
Signing Fernandez, should he be available, would offer Manchester United a player capable of dictating tempo, transitioning play and contributing goals from midfield — qualities that have been missing in patches this season.
Saha’s endorsement adds weight to the argument that the Red Devils must be active in the market, particularly if they are to challenge for domestic and European honours next term
