Football news expert Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on several major transfer stories ahead of this summer, including the latest on Anthony Gordon, Marcus Rashford and Jurgen Klopp.
Manuel Neuer contract update
Manuel Neuer is currently set to become a free agent when his Bayern contract expires in July, but Romano has confirmed that a new deal is expected to be signed.
“Today a meeting took place between Neuer’s agent and Bayern to continue together,” the transfer expert told his YouTube channel. “The 40-year-old goalkeeper is expected to stay at Bayern next season. The agreement is now about the contract details, but Neuer wants to stay and play one more year for Bayern.
“It would be incredible after 16 years together. Neuer and Bayern continuing would be something special. The agreement is getting closer.”
Real Madrid manager situation
Real Madrid are searching for their next permanent manager following the departure of Xabi Alonso earlier this year, and Romano has clarified the latest on rumoured interest in Jurgen Klopp and Jose Mourinho.
“For Mourinho, I maintain what I have been telling you. Mourinho would love to go to Real Madrid despite his recent public interview. His focus is currently on helping Benfica until the end of the season, but he would love the Real Madrid job. Florentino Perez is aware of this and there will be more contacts involving Jorge Mendes and the club.
“The contract is not expected to be an issue. It is up to Real Madrid to decide whether to activate the operation to bring Mourinho back. The decision is entirely in the hands of Florentino Perez. Mourinho is waiting while Real Madrid consider their options.
“The release clause situation becomes active towards the end of May, leaving around one month to act or negotiate with Benfica. The relationship between the clubs is very good, which is an important factor. For now, we wait and see what happens, but Mourinho remains on standby for Real Madrid.”
He continued: “On Klopp, I told you already in January that he has many admirers internally at Real Madrid. However, the decision is now fully in the hands of Florentino Perez. The board can give advice, but Perez will make the final call. Klopp is appreciated internally, but everything depends on Perez and on Klopp himself.
“Real Madrid believe Klopp must decide his own future first. He is currently working within the Red Bull group structure and the club do not want to disturb that relationship.
“If Klopp decides he wants to return to management and puts himself on the market, then it could become a possibility. At the moment, this has not happened, and Real Madrid consider this step essential.
“This is why the situations of Klopp and Mourinho are different. Mourinho is waiting and open, while Real Madrid have not received any clear indication from Klopp about his intentions. That message must come first if he wants to be considered.”
Goncalo Ramos transfer interest
Paris Saint-Germain striker Goncalo Ramos has two years remaining on his current contract at the Parc des Princes and several clubs across Europe are keeping close tabs on his situation ahead of a potential swoop.
“Ramos is a very interesting striker because every time he plays, even with limited space in a strong squad, he delivers,” Romano said.
“He remains an important player for Luis Enrique, but my understanding is that he could leave Paris Saint-Germain in the summer transfer window. This is a serious and concrete possibility.
“There is interest from clubs in Italy, as well as Spain and England. There is movement around Ramos and he could be one of the key names to watch this summer.
“For now, his focus remains on winning titles with PSG, where he has already been important, including last season. However, a departure in the summer is a real possibility.”
Anthony Gordon likely to leave Newcastle
Newcastle United forward has attracted interest from multiple top European teams and Romano has admitted that a transfer is on the cards this summer.
“Another name to watch is Anthony Gordon. He has very serious chances of leaving Newcastle United in the summer transfer window.
“At the moment, Bayern are strongly interested, and Premier League clubs could also enter the race soon. It is currently a situation between Bayern and potential Premier League interest.
“Much will depend on the price tag set by Newcastle. However, according to my information, there is a strong possibility that Gordon will leave. He is part of a three-man shortlist for the winger position at Bayern, who are planning to add a winger this summer. This is definitely one to follow closely.”
Marcus Rashford and Barcelona negotiations
Finally, Romano provided an update on negotiations between Barcelona and Manchester United regarding the future of Marcus Rashford, who is currently on loan at Camp Nou.
“There have been ongoing conversations between the clubs. Man Utd insist on a €30 million buy option clause. Otherwise, the player could return and the club would decide his future.
“Barcelona are pushing because Rashford wants to stay. His relationship with the coach and team-mates is excellent. Barcelona are trying to restructure the deal, possibly extending the loan or changing the conditions.
“At the same time, they are exploring alternatives in the winger market. This is not only about young talents but also established names. Barcelona have two paths – keep Rashford if an agreement is reached, or move for other options in the market.”
