As is seemingly always the case, however, Bowen has been linked with a summer transfer to Chelsea.

Previous reports have claimed that West Ham United may need to sell players this summer and captain Bowen would certainly look like a prime candidate on that front.

Still, following claims that West Ham will fight to keep Bowen this summer, talkSPORT’s Alex Crook has provided an update.

Crook was speaking alongside Gabby Agbonlahor and commentator Sam Matterface about West Ham’s chances of staying in the Premier League this season.

Reflecting on Bowen claiming that staying in the Premier League would mean more than winning the Conference League in 2023, Crook said: “I also think if West Ham go down, he knows he’s got to have a difficult conversation with his father-in-law (Danny Dyer), hasn’t he?

“If West Ham stay up, I think he’ll stay but if they go, obviously he will have to go as well.”

That is fantastic news for supporters here in east London and beyond. Indeed, it means that West Ham are currently on course to keep him for another season.

Clearly, all of that could change should results slide in the final four games of the season.

However, West Ham are currently favourites to stay up instead of Tottenham, assuming those two are the ones battling it out to avoid joining Wolves and Burnley in the Championship next season.

Bowen has played a key role in getting to that point, bagging eight goals while registering ten assists – the bulk of which came when the club started the day in the bottom three.

Clearly, Bowen loves playing for West Ham and has deep roots in the area, of which much is made.

It, however, is still difficult to imagine a player of his stature playing in the Championship, no matter how much he loves the club.
