Club President Confirms He “Spoke” With Several Clubs As Man City And Chelsea Fight Over Brazilian Wonderkid

Man City, Chelsea and both Madrid clubs have made enquiries for Cruzeiro attacking midfielder Eduardo Pape, according to reports in the Brazilian media.

UOL Esporte says the four teams have formally registered their interest in the teenager following his performances for Brazil Under-17s at the South American Championships.

Serie D side Azuriz also still own a percentage of the player, and their president, Robson Ramos, told UOL that he has been made aware that the likes of City are keen on signing Pape:

“I was in Paraguay following the U17 South American Championship. I spoke with the clubs, all showed interest and said they would assess his projection. I am expecting something, at least.”

What do fans need to know about Pape?

The 17-year-old has not made his first-team debut for Cruzeiro yet, but he was part of the team that won the Copinha at the start of this year, which is the Sao Paulo region’s most prestigious youth tournament. He played in every round apart from the final.

At international level, Pape was named in Brazil’s squad for the Under-17 South American Championships, which took place earlier this month.

The youngster scored 4 goals and provided 1 assist as Brazil won 5 and lost 1 of their 6 matches. With those numbers, it is not a surprise that scouts from European teams took notice.

Man City could face even more competition for the player

UOL report that the likes of BournemouthMonaco and Villarreal have also been keeping tabs on Pape ahead of the summer transfer window.

If the Brazilian does move to City, he would most likely join one of the club’s affiliates. Bahia would be the favourite, considering they are based in Brazil, but if he is talented enough, he could be brought to Manchester straightaway and then loaned out.
