Petr Cech urges Chelsea ownership to change their philosophy

Chelsea legend Petr Cech has called on the club to change their philosophy if they want to win the Premier League or Champions League.

Cech was a huge part of the successful Roman Abramovich era at Chelsea where the Blues won every trophy possible.

After retirement Cech worked as a technical director at the club, but left that role following the Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital takeover in 2022.

Chelsea are now a completely different club, with the Blues operating a heavily youth focused recruitment strategy.

Players are put on long contracts, and it very much appears business comes first and football comes second under this ownership.

Whilst Enzo Maresca delivered two trophies and returned the club to the Champions League last season, the last four years have been very difficult.

Chelsea are in the FA Cup final, but are once again unlikely to qualify for the Champions League, and if that does happen it’ll be the third time in the last four seasons.

Pressure is building on the ownership, with fans protesting against the way the club is run, and Cech has called on the owners to change their philosophy.

“You have to change your philosophy,” he told The Athletic.

“Certain things don’t go together because, in order to win a Champions League or a Premier League, these are really tough competitions, and you have to be consistent.

“You need to have a strong core of the team.”

Co-owner Behdad Eghbali has said the model will be tweaked this summer, but fans won’t believe it until they see action taken.
