The view was shared after The Chelsea Chronicle came up with a potential starting XI under Xabi Alonso that did not include Fernandez.

Alonso is one candidate for the Chelsea job following Liam Rosenior’s sacking last month.

Whoever is in charge of the Club World Cup winners next season will want to have both Palmer and Fernandez in their squad.

However, if they had to choose between the two for whatever reason, Palmer is the only correct answer.

Fernandez is obviously having a better season than him. But a fit Palmer playing in the right position and system is unstoppable. The attacking midfielder showed that in his first two campaigns at Chelsea.

In the 2023/24 season, Palmer scored 25 goals and provided 15 assists in 45 appearances. That is an incredible 40 goal contributions in a single campaign.

A year later, the Englishman scored 18 goals and set up another 14 in 52 outings. These are numbers that Fernandez can only dream of reaching.

Under Enzo Maresca, Fernandez developed into a really good attacking player. But if you have to pick one for the No.10 position, it has to be Palmer, who is a goal and assist machine.
