The managerial mess that wouldn’t end
Enzo Maresca left Chelsea on New Year’s Day with the club 15 points behind Arsenal. They had won only once in seven league games. The split happened because of tension between Maresca and the board over the medical staff, his media interviews, and rumours that he was taking other jobs.
Chelsea then hired Liam Rosenior from Strasbourg, giving him a massive contract until 2032. That didn’t last long; Chelsea fired him on April 22, 2026, after a bad 3-0 loss to Brighton. Calum McFarlane is now the interim boss. Having three managers in one season has left the players with no clear direction.
Injuries that ruined the front line
Cole Palmer struggled with a groin problem that kept him from even taking shots. He missed 19 games in total, marking the toughest year of his career. At the same time, Estevao Willian picked up a bad hamstring injury against Manchester United and is out for the rest of the season.
With Levi Colwill, Reece James, Jamie Gittens, and Filip Jorgensen also sidelined, the team are hollowed out. Losing their best attackers all at once proved the squad wasn’t deep enough to handle the pressure.

A total drop in results and effort
Chelsea lost five straight league games without scoring, a drought the club haven’t seen since 1912. Bad mistakes, poor discipline, and low confidence became permanent issues that neither Maresca nor Rosenior could fix.
After the Brighton loss, Rosenior admitted that only three or four players showed the right fight, calling the team’s effort indefensible. For a team that began the year as world champions, this season is easily one of the most shocking collapses in Premier League history.
