Chelsea player slammed as “lazy” in loss to Nottingham Forest
Everything that could have gone wrong for Chelsea did in the game against Nottingham Forest. They went down within two minutes and there was no coming back from there. Inside 15 minutes, the score was 2-0 in favour of the visitors, who had actually put out a depleted team with a second leg of the Europa League semi-final against Aston Villa coming up for them.
Chelsea were handed a chance to come back into the game but Cole Palmer fluffed his lines from the penalty spot. The Englishman needs a real lift at the moment. The club need to figure out what is wrong. Is it a confidence issue? Is he still playing through an issue? Does he need surgery? Does he want to leave?
Nottingham Forest went up 3-0 after the break and a spectacular late goal from Joao Pedro only ended up being a consolation. Chelsea have now lost six in a row in the Premier League for the first time since 1993.
They have a couple of injury problems to be worried about coming out of the game as well. We would like to wish Jesse Derry and Robert Sanchez a speedy and complete recovery.
Chelsea player called out for being lazy against Nottingham Forest
It goes without saying that not many Chelsea players got pass marks for their performances on the day. And the one who was at fault for the second goal was Malo Gusto.
Gusto made a needless error when the Nottingham Forest player was probably never going to reach the ball, not even come close. And he was called out for it.
According to Football FanCast, Alan Smith said on commentary for Sky Sports that “it’s ridiculous” that Gusto chose to foul Awoniyi. He went on to describe it as “lazy” and concluded that “it cost his side” so early on.
Where do the Blues go from here?
It did, and who knows how this game could have gone if Chelsea had not conceded that second goal. Remember, they had their chances on the day.
Pedro scored one and had another ruled out. Palmer missed the penalty. On another day, they could have scored thrice. But they are not going to win too many games if they continue to make errors like this.
It feels like too many in this team have already checked out. There is one game of consequence left to play, which is the Manchester City FA Cup final. And it is hard to see them finding too much success against a team of that quality when they can’t find a way past the B team of a club sitting at 16th in the Premier League table.
