Chelsea issue update on 18-year-old Jesse Derry after teenager is rushed to hospital with head injury during loss against Nottingham Forest

Chelsea has issued an update about 18-year-old Jesse Derry after he was injured during their 3-1 loss to Nottingham Forest on May 4 in the Premier League. The teenager was rushed to the hospital after a head injury during the game.

Jesse Derry made his senior team start for the Blues in the clash against Nottingham Forest. However, Derry suffered a bad head injury ahead of half-time (44′) and had to be rushed to the hospital. The youngster was given oxygen support for eight-and-a-half minutes and given a standing ovation as he left Stamford Bridge. Liam Delap (45’+9′) replaced Derry during the half-time stoppage time.

In a social media update shared on May 4, Chelsea shared an update about his health. The post said:

“Jesse Derry has been taken to hospital as a precaution following his first-half substitution during today’s #PL game against Nottingham Forest. Jesse is conscious, talking and undergoing precautionary checks. We wish him a speedy recovery and thank the medical staff for their swift response.”

With Chelsea’s defeat tonight, they have 48 points from 35 games in the Premier League, standing ninth in the table. They are struggling to qualify for European football, but have the FA Cup final against Manchester City on May 16. They have interim coach Calum McFarlane in charge, after they lost two coaches – Enzo Maresca and Liam Rosenior, this season.

When Thierry Henry spoke about Chelsea star Jesse Derry ahead of his first start

Speaking on Sky Sports ahead of Chelsea’s clash against Nottingham Forest, Arsenal legend Thierry Henry shared his thoughts on Jesse Derry’s debut start. He said:

“By the look of him, he’s a tricky player, good on the ball. Hopefully he can score goals, create goals, then he can become the full package. Let’s see what he can do. It’s gonna be a good battle with Abbott.”

Speaking ahead of Derry’s start, interim coach Calum McFarlane also waxed lyrical about the player. He said:

“It’s a great opportunity for Jesse. He’s trained with us a lot, he’s been in the squad, he’s played in other games, so we trust him. We know his talent, and I’ve worked with him previously. The boys trust him, and he’s trained really well, so we’re really excited for Jesse.”

Derry made his official debut under former boss Liam Rosenior, coming off the bench during the FA Cup win against Hull City.
