Chelsea players rated after 1-3 loss against Nottingham Forest

Chelsea‘s bleak afternoon at Stamford Bridge, a 1–3 home defeat to Nottingham Forest, stretched their losing streak in the Premier League to six games, leaving the FA Cup as their last real chance at a trophy this season. It’s another low point for Chelsea that has to receive close attention.

How did it all fall apart against Forest?

Forest took the lead in just the second minute when Taiwo Awoniyi headed home a Dilane Bakwa cross at the back post. Chelsea seemed stunned and never really recovered. Robert Sánchez started okay, but with the defence collapsing in front of him, he didn’t stand much of a chance — 5/10.

Malo Gusto handed Forest their second from the spot after a blatant shirt-pull caught by VAR; he tried to get forward afterwards, but none of that running led to anything useful — 5/10.

Trevoh Chalobah looked lost against long balls and was constantly caught out of position — 5/10.

Tosin Adarabioyo also struggled with Awoniyi’s physicality, a far cry from his solid performance at Wembley last week — 5/10.

Marc Cucurella had a nightmare: he was far too soft for the opening goal, and his basic defending was well below par — 4/10.

A midfield and attack that went missing

Roméo Lavia kept things neat but couldn’t actually break down Forest’s setup — 5.5/10.

Moisés Caicedo put in the work defensively, but he let Morgan Gibbs-White get goal-side of him for Forest’s third and picked up a late yellow card — 5.5/10.

Enzo Fernández was easily Chelsea’s best player, hitting the woodwork early and always trying to make things happen — 7/10.

Jesse Derry looked bright in his first Premier League start until a nasty head injury forced him off — 6.5/10.

Cole Palmer’s penalty miss just before the break summed up a worrying slump in form right before the World Cup — 4.5/10.

João Pedro finally ended Chelsea’s nine-hour goal drought with a brilliant overhead kick in added time — 7/10.

Substitutes with too much to do

Filip Jörgensen came on for the injured Sánchez after 66 minutes but had almost nothing to do — 5.5/10.

Levi Colwill replaced Tosin at the half and looked much steadier in the backline — 6/10.

Liam Delap added some spark late in the game but couldn’t find a gap in a disciplined Forest defence — 5.5/10.
