Fans are still reacting to Chelsea’s defeat to Nottingham Forest yesterday, but of course behind the scenes there are bigger picture moves being made.

Italian transfer insider Nicolo Schira has been all over our pursuit of a new manager, and today he’s been able to effectively rule out one candidate.

Porto’s Francesco Farioli is not a name we’ve heard a lot about yet, but according to Schira he’s not intending to make a Premier League move anytime soon. The Blues and another Premier League club apparently “approached” him, but he’s keen to stay at Porto where he’s just won the title in his first season.

Farioli off the table for Chelsea

Considering he doesn’t have Premier League experience, it always felt like Farioli would be quite far down our list anyway. But now he’s out of the game entirely.

His high possession tactics are interesting, but might also have been a bit too similar to Maurizio Sarri’s hyper controlled style for some Chelsea fans. It will be very interesting to see if he ends up in the Premier League eventually.

In other news…

Joao Pedro at least had the courage to speak to the cameras after yesterday’s defeat, where his goal was the sole positive.

On Sky Sports, Jamie Carragher laid into the Chelsea project as a whole but said it was “good for football” that it was failing.
