Chelsea green light to sign Dutch star Xavi Simons for bargain
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Xavi Simons has once again become a talking point in the transfer market, with fresh reports suggesting Chelsea remain attentive to his situation ahead of the summer window.
According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Spurs are considering a major squad reshuffle and could be willing to sanction the Dutch international’s departure for a fee in the region of €27 million as part of wider cost-cutting and restructuring plans .
Simons, long admired by CHELSEA during his development years, has been repeatedly linked with a move to Stamford Bridge. The Blues were heavily involved in the race for his signature before he eventually joined Tottenham, and their interest has never fully disappeared. Reports earlier this year indicated that Chelsea continue to monitor his progress, viewing him as a versatile attacking midfielder capable of operating between the lines or out wide .
However, Tottenham’s willingness to consider a reduced fee has added new momentum to speculation. The €27 million valuation—significantly lower than his earlier market estimates—has raised eyebrows across Europe and is seen as a consequence of Spurs’ broader financial and squad management concerns.
The Blues have already invested heavily in attacking midfield options in recent windows, and competition for minutes at Stamford Bridge is intense. While Simons’ technical quality, creativity, and pressing ability remain highly rated, Chelsea may question whether a move is a priority positionally or financially at this stage.
Opinion: Do Chelsea still want him?
In truth, Chelsea’s admiration for Xavi Simons likely still exists, but their “need” for him is less clear than it once was. He fits the club’s recruitment profile—young, technically elite, and tactically flexible—but the squad already contains several similar profiles.
Unless there is a clear opportunity to sign him at a bargain price or a specific tactical gap emerges, CHELSEA ’s interest may remain passive rather than aggressive. Tottenham’s willingness to sell makes the story intriguing, but it does not guarantee a Stamford Bridge return is imminent
