Prospective Chelsea boss Cesc Fabregas has revealed that he likes to be in charge of “all the football decisions”.

In comments that effectively rule him out of leaving Como for Stamford Bridge, Fabregas said he works well with a sporting director, but he is the one making choices on signings and all other aspects of the team:

“I take all the football decisions. The sporting director, he’s day-to-day with me and we see football the same way. The signings, we work with data, we have our scouting and stuff, but it needs to be something that I believe in. It needs to be a player that I’m convinced about. I’m so happy and lucky that we have a president that trusts me a lot and has given me the confidence to go and take all the football decisions. That, for me, is really important.”

Considering that Chelsea run under a very different model, where co-sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Lawrence Stewart have a great deal of authority, most supporters on X believe Fabregas is no longer a candidate to replace Liam Rosenior:

Who is the favourite to become the next permanent Chelsea boss?

Xabi Alonso is the current leading candidate at the bookmakers with odds between 13/8 and 5/2. Bournemouth head coach Andoni Iraola is second in the running, priced at 3/1.

Fulham boss Marco Silva is third favourite, with odds of around 4/1 to 6/1, with Fabregas still seen as the fourth likeliest to take the job (5/1 to 13/2).

When will a decision be made on the next manager?

The club placed Calum McFarlane in charge until the summer to give themselves more time to assess potential candidates.

A shortlist is currently being drawn up, with interviews expected to follow. No final decision is expected for several weeks.
