Joao Pedro hit his 20th goal of the season on Monday afternoon, a superb bicycle kick that he was unable to celebrate as it came in extra time of a sixth consecutive league defeat.
The striker then had a glum interview at full time where he explained how disappointed he and his teammates were by the club’s current form.
Joao Pedro deal a good one for Chelsea – at last
After something of a slow start, the Brazilian has proved to be one of the few bright spots in this whole season. He’s got 15 goals and 5 assists in the Premier League, and the club will surely be trying to replicate his signing this summer.
He was 23, so young enough to have upside, but had plenty of experience playing in England and in the Premier League. They paid good money, but for £60m they got someone who they were pretty sure could contribute as a starter right away.
Why gamble on the likes of Jamie Gittens and Alejandro Garnacho when there are more established options available at the same price, already playing well in the Premier League?
