One of the biggest worries for Chelsea coming out of the game against Nottingham Forest was the condition of Jesse Derry. The academy winger had been handed his first Premier League start and was actually one of the Blues’ better players on the day. But before half-time, he suffered a clash of heads with Zach Abbott of Nottingham Forest.

In the aftermath of the incident, Derry received treatment on the pitch for several minutes. Eventually, he was taken out on a stretcher.

Naturally, fans were left worried about the youngster’s condition. Nobody wants to see a player get injured. And especially not when it is someone making their Premier League debut.

After the game, Chelsea shared that Derry had been taken to the hospital as a precaution. He was said to be conscious, talking and undergoing precautionary checks. That was a positive. Now, the player himself has shared an update on his health.

Jason Derry sends message to Chelsea fans, already looks forward to return

Derry broke his silence and shared a message on his Instagram. He wrote:

A dream come true to start at Stamford Bridge for my Premier League debut.

I’d like to thank all the Chelsea medical staff, everyone at St Mary’s Hospital, my teammates, and all the fans for their great support.

I can’t wait to be back playing in front of everyone very soon

It is great to see that the youngster is in good spirits and looking forward to his return to the pitch already. While the extent or exact nature of the injury has not been cleared yet, it does seem like it won’t keep him out for too long.

Fans will be hoping to see a lot more of Derry when he is fit and available. He is one of the few players yesterday who seemed to have a spark and looked like they could make something happen. The injury has come at the worst possible time for him as he could have been in line for more opportunities, with very little left to play for in the league after that latest defeat.

Chelsea’s options on the wings dwindling

Chelsea are left without a genuine option on the wing at the moment. Alejandro Garnacho and Pedro Neto both picked up knocks in training and missed the game against Nottingham Forrest. Jamie Gittens and Estevao are not expected to return this season. And now Derry is out of action as well.

That just makes things a lot more difficult for an already struggling Chelsea. It will be interesting to see how Calum McFarlane tackles the game against Liverpool.

It has been suggested that Garnacho and Neto could be fit in time for the trip to Anfield. But will they be fit enough to start? If not, who will start for Chelsea on the wings? Or will the Blues go without a different system altogether?
